Dentistry at the University of Zurich

The study of dentistry at the University of Zurich is a five-year, full-time program, which is divided into three years of bachelor’s degree followed by two years of master’s degree. After passing the Numerus Clausus exam, the first two years of the program begin, also known as pre-clinical studies. These take place on the Irchel campus of the University of Zurich, together with students studying human medicine. During this time, students receive comprehensive training in natural and social sciences, which provides a solid foundation for the rest of the program. The following three years are focused on clinical studies and take place at the Center for Dental Medicine (ZZM) at the University of Zurich. Here, students learn the theoretical knowledge and practical clinical skills necessary for the dental practice. The program is modular and takes into account the latest scientific methods and interdisciplinary insights, so that students receive a contemporary education.

The dental medicine program is designed to provide professional training and has a clearly defined structure and course catalog. It is only offered annually and starts in the fall semester. The curriculum is based on internationally recognized standards and is tailored to the academic profile of the Faculty of Medicine.

Prospective students with a background in natural sciences have an advantage as the program places emphasis in this area. Students who enjoy precise manual work, aesthetic design, teamwork, and possess empathetic interpersonal skills will appreciate these qualities both in their studies and in their future professional life.

In addition to the rigorous academic program, the University of Zurich provides a vibrant and supportive student community, as well as a range of extracurricular activities that allow students to socialize with their peers outside of their studies.
